“We’ve Tried Everything”: A Secure Attachment Approach to Baby Sleep Support in Brisbane

When parents tell me, “We’ve tried everything,” I believe them.

Those words are never said lightly. They usually come after months, sometimes over years of broken sleep, endless settling, second-guessing, and doing everything possible to support their baby while quietly running on empty themselves.

Recently, I had the honour of supporting a beautiful Brisbane family through The Sleep Sanctuary’s Overnight Sleep Support Package. Their 13-month-old daughter had never spent a full night in her cot. Feeding to sleep and co-sleeping had been her world since birth, and it made perfect sense. It was what felt safe, familiar, and regulating for her.

For Mum and Dad, though, sleep had become increasingly fragile.

When Gentle Efforts Still Feel Exhausting

This family was already doing all the “right” things, and then some.

They were deeply responsive and incredibly patient:

  • Hands-on settling, every night

  • Long bedtime routines filled with connection

  • Patting and supporting their daughter to sleep for over an hour some nights

  • Only for sleep to unravel again shortly after

They weren’t looking for perfection.
They weren’t chasing rigid routines or unrealistic expectations.

They were simply hoping for 5-6 hours of solid, restorative rest, and wondering if that was even possible for their family.

And they were understandably unsure whether sleep could improve without compromising emotional safety.

Gentle Baby Sleep Support Can Create Change

Within three nights of responsive, in-home overnight support, everything shifted.

This clever, capable little girl:

  • Settled herself to sleep in her own cot

  • Slept through the night with no feeds or intervention

  • Fell asleep for naps with an ease that once felt impossibly far away

And just as importantly:

  • There was no cry-it-out

  • No compromising emotional safety or attachment

  • No pressure on parents to do anything that didn’t feel right

Sleep wasn’t forced. It was gently scaffolded with a consistent approach.

Sleep isn’t just taught. It’s Supported

At The Sleep Sanctuary, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all sleep solutions.

Every family comes with:

  • Their own values

  • Their own capacity

  • Their own nervous systems (both parents and children)

Our role is to meet you where you are and help you understand why sleep is challenging, then walk alongside you as you build rhythms and settling approaches that feel sustainable and respectful.
